Last week I read someone else's story on the Arabian Nights unit and I decided to read it this week. It has Aladdin and his magical lamp (hello Disney!).

Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp Parts 1-6 Notes:
- Aladdin the son of a tailor. and as a boy he loved to play all day.
- a strange man asked him if he was the son of Mustapha the tailor
- the stranger was a famous African magician, saying that he was the boys uncle. sent the boy to his mother to let her know that he was coming
- mom always thought that her late husbands brother was always dead
- the boy and his uncle went to a garden outside of the cities gates. they almost reached the mountains when Aladdin was tired and begged to go back home
- they reached the mountains, they started a fire, the uncle said some magical words and a flat stone with a brass ring in the middle.
- the uncle told Aladdin that beneath the stone lies a treasure which is to be his and no one else may touch it.
- the boy grabbed the ring and said the names of his father, grandfather and so on until some steps appeared
- the uncle rushed Aladdin to give him the lamp when he returned, but Aladdin would not until he was out of the cave
- this is when the boy realized that he was not his uncle but someone who read in his spell book that the lamp would make him the most powerful man in the world
- Aladdin was left in the cave, crying for days he kneeled to pray and rubbed his hands on the ring that is when the genie rose out of the ground.
part 2
- he asked the genie to take him home.
- is mother had nothing to eat when he returned home, but offered to go sell some cotton.
- instead he offered to sell the lamp, they tried polishing it for a better price and the genie appeared again
- asking for something to eat he gave them a feast
- after the feast from the genie they sold the silver plates until none were left
- the sultan ordered everyone to stay home while him and the princess went to the bath.
- Aladdin wanted to see the princess, but she was always wore a vail.
- he hide behind a door at the bath house, saw her face, and fell in love with her
- he ordered his mother to go to the sultan and ask for them to married
- she took the stones/fruit from the cave to the sultan as payment for the princess
- she went everyday for a week until the sultan noticed her
- when she talked to the sultan he ordered everyone away except for the grand vizir
- she told them of her sons desires and presented the jewels, the vizir instructed him to wait 3 months in hopes that his own son could make a more gracious offer for the princess.
- the mother stayed away for 2 months, went to the city for oil for the lamp and that is when they heard that the vizir's son was marrying the princess that night
- Aladdin asked the genie to bring the bride and bride-groom to him that night
