Ohh…
To pick a favorite place is hard. For me its more of a feeling that I get when I am in a certain place. Relaxed, comfortable, free (is that a feeling?) when I am in or at these places.
Home.
Being at home is one of my favorite places. But with that, home is not always where I live. Home is where I am surrounded by family, food, laughter, and just being together with people I am related to and those that I claim to be related to. Home is where I feel comfortable walking around barefoot inside and outside. Home is where we can learn from older generations and teach those that are younger than us. Home is where you can hand your child(ren) off to other family members and know that they are safe and loved. Home to me is my parents house where I grew up. Home is where I currently live with my sister. Home is my Grandparents house in Tulsa where we celebrate the holidays. Home is my Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin's houses in the cities that they live in. Home is being over at my best friends, that I grew up with since I was 1, house with her family celebrating her kids birthdays. Being at home, everything goes away it seems like at times and we are relaxed, comfortable, and have that feeling of being free from our normal day to day routines.

The image above is of downtown Eureka Springs, Arkansas. I love going up to here. I have family that lives in and just outside of the city limits. It is up in the mountains and the road twist and turns, up and down about the whole way from Bentonville to Eureka Springs. I think that the views are spectacular going up and down the mountain. As my extended family that comes to family holidays at my grandparents this is the furthest away from me here in Norman.
Both of the images (to the left and below) are my family. Where ever I am with any of these people I am at home. To the left: is my Father's side, there is about 30 of us now. Spreading across 5 generations now.
Below is my Mother's side about 20 tops when everyone is together spreading across 3 generations, not including my mother's father's siblings.
OU Bizzell Memorial Library
Oddly enough while being on campus here at OU, I love being in the library.

The image above is from the OU Daily website of the library looking ou onto the south oval here on campus. I chose this image because of the architecture of the library itself. I like to come to various floors of the library to read, do homework (example this class), and write papers and other homework projects. I come here because I am able to get what I need to done rather than being at home where I am more distracted and or fall asleep from doing so. I am able to play music from my phone, normally classical or just instrumental, to block out the noise from people walking by and focus on my homework and or projects that I need to get done.
The Beach! and of Course Disneyworld.
All four (2 above and 2 below) are from when I went to Florida in 2107, personal photos no links or website. They are of the beach and of course Disney World. Can you really go to Florida and not go to both? I would say no. The beach to me is relaxing, the sound of the waves coming in, the breeze off the ocean, the smells, sand between your toes, all of it is relaxing to me. We went to Jetty Beach off Florida's space coast near Cape Canaveral. Being in or near the ocean is a good reminder of just how small us humans are in the world.
okay, now Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Going as a 26 year old at the time, being my first time to go and it was just for one day at the Magic Kingdom Park, I have to say it really is a magical place. While waiting in lines, I don't remember a single rude person. Granted I was just in awe of everything like the much smaller kids than me. But I was, I think at least, truly happy the entire time I was there even through the blisters, sunburn, and lack of food throughout the day. (yes, I stayed hydrated)
Enough Rambling for one post
I always seem to feel like I ramble a lot on blog post, sorry if I do. But these are my favorite places, some are not a true place, close and far away destinations. I feel like people give me the same feeling as being in a certain place. Some are short getaways to where family lives, or long destination as in the beach. I think while considering a favorite place we need to think of how we feel in those places as well.

Thanks for all these lovely pictures, Megan! There are so many beautiful places in Arkansas, perfect for family reunions... all 5 generations! Wow! And I share your love of the Library too: there will be lots of mentions of Bizzell in the Announcements for class, urging people to explore all that it has to offer. Now if only Bizzell had a beach too...
ReplyDeleteHere's something fun: there is a student in the class who is actually working full-time at Disneyworld while she is in the class this semester. You can check out her introduction here: Working in Walt Disney World
... that's a link; in Blogger, you can create link text, highlight it, and then use the address to create the link; that is usually more useful than just pasting in the raw http blah blah :-)
