The Contenders
The unit of Alice in Wonderland was the first one to catch my attention. I remember reading the story in middle school, we had AR reading points that we had to get for our English class and we got to choose our books. I think this will be interesting to compare what I remember reading, the animated version by Disney, and the newer live action movies also from Disney. I say compare because I know that Disney adapts classic stories and make them their own. The image on this page I know I have seen somewhere once upon a time, I just don't know exactly where. It could have been in the book that I read in middle school or just some place here on the internet. From the reading options given under this link the stories all sound familiar, except for the story about the Pig and Pepper (I will be sure and give that one a look at a later date)
I started clicking on some more links, of course the fairy tale one, but I knew these stories and wanted to possibly look at one that I do not know that much about. There fore, good ole Robin Hood came into play. I somewhat know the basic story, but never have actually read the original story of Robin Hood. Looking at the story options collected by Francis James Child, the story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian will always be a favorite because of love, and I will laugh at how he is a trickster and disguise himself to get past his sworn enemies.
Lastly I keep clicking some more on the different unit options, and I KNOW what the Brothers Grimm units could contain. All of the Fairy Tale stories that I grew up with and know, but the original UN-Disney versions. I have read the original version of Cinderella before (My favorite Princess in the Disney world) and I know that it is much sadder than the movies. This could be interesting in that I could learn more about my favorite princess and her true story, but I still feel like I need to branch out and challenge myself to something new. I read the story of Allerleirauh and loved it. It was familiar in a way to the other Grimm stories that I somewhat knew but still different in a way that I wanted to keep reading.
The UnTextbook
I must say that I am loving the untextbook so far. I think that it is well organized and easy to maneuver within it. I am excited to read more on these possible units that I have looked at today. As well as reading other people in the class their perspective on the units that they choose.
